Steelers could sign Tretter

One of the top names currently left in free agency, J.C. Tretter has routinely been one of the best centers in the league. He has the size and athleticism to be a versatile player along the interior and he excels in both run and pass blocking. He has been a regular starter for the Browns since they signed him but was released this offseason to shed some cap space.

The interior of the Steelers line is full of question marks, as the group struggled as a whole last year. While a healthier Kevin Dotson and key free-agent signing James Daniels should improve the guard spots, there is still an issue at center. Kendrick Green is returning and figures to compete with newly signed Mason Cole, but neither are great players overall.

Tretter would be an upgrade over either of these players frankly, as he would become a key veteran presence along this offensive line. While money wise it would be hard to justify adding him after Cole’s deal, he would easily become the starter if he were added. Tretter is a far better center than either of the names the Steelers currently possess.
