Pittsburgh made some moves to improve their roster in 2022, but these three Steelers are being grossly overrated ahead of the season.

I want to be able to be as optimistic as the next Steelers fans, but what good would I be to you if I couldn’t properly and objectively evaluate the game? Pittsburgh’s front office made some interesting moves over the offseason — some of which no doubt helped improve the team.

However, there are a few players on the roster that fans continue to be too high on. This isn’t to say that they can’t have great seasons in 2022, but the evidence before us presents itself differently. Here are three Steelers who continue to be overrated:

Steelers LB Myles Jack

The Myles Jack signing felt much like the Eric Ebron signing a few years back, to be honest. At the time, fans were ecstatic that Pittsburgh snagged a former top-10 draft choice and Pro Bowler like Ebron, but he proved to be much like the player we saw for most of his career — remarkably underwhelming with bad hands and poor blocking.

Jack could be a better linebacker than Ebron was a tight end, but that’s not saying much. However, he certainly feels like a player who is getting by on his reputation alone at this point. In 2021, Jack earned a dismal 37.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus (77th out of 87 qualifying linebackers). The tape lined up with this, and he struggled in many of the same ways that Devin Bush did last year.

Perhaps a change of scenery in Pittsburgh could give him a bit of a boost, but I think fans should just be hoping for a player who isn’t a detriment to their team; not one who is going to be a Pro Bowl talent.

Jack is young enough to still be a good player, but a degenerative knee issue could have something to say about that. Either way, I think he is being vastly overrated ahead of the 2022 season.
