3 Steelers veterans who could lose their starting jobs to newcomers
By Josh De Luca
Steelers S Terrell Edmunds
Terrell Edmunds has been a reliable starter for the Steelers since he was drafted in the first round back in 2018. Already having started 60 games at the age of twenty-four, Edmunds is a young veteran.
This past offseason, the Steelers ended up declining Edmund’s 5th-year rookie option. Despite doing this, the Steelers still ended up resigning him to a one-year “prove it” deal this offseason.
At the moment, Edmunds has been taking reps with the first-team defense during OTAs. However, with Damontae Kazee, being a new, versatile, free-agent addition, Edmunds’s job could be in jeopardy.
Kazee spent last season on the Dallas Cowboys, where he started 15 games, forced 2 fumbles, and intercepted 2 passes. He was a reliable starter who took snaps at both safety and linebacker. Kazee’s versatility is something that helps him be used in multiple schemes and personnel groups.
If Edmunds continues to struggle in pass coverage and miss key tackles in the open field, it would be no surprise if a versatile player like Kazee were to step in and take over.
