Steelers CB Justin Layne

Justin Layne is in a very similar situation to Anthony McFarland. Layne was a 3rd-round selection in the 2019 NFL draft by the Steelers. In his three seasons with the Steelers, Layne has been almost nonexistent.

As a 3rd-round pick in the NFL, you are almost expected to make an impact right away. If not on offense or defense, you are still expected to make an impact on special teams. Layne really hasn’t been a factor in any asset of the game.

Last season, Layne played on just 2% of defensive snaps. For a 3rd year 3rd-round pick, you would expect a lot more production than what Layne has been providing. With the Steelers still sitting on a little bit of cap space, they could easily replace Layne on the roster with either a proven veteran or a younger more promising prospect.

Justin had all the measurables and production in college, he just hasn’t been able to translate it to the NFL. If he doesn’t show massive strides in the offseason, this might be Layne’s last season in the black and gold.
