Former Steelers Bostic

Jon Bostic has to be one of the more peculiar signings for the Steelers in recent years. He had a decent start to his career, was pretty mediocre for the one year he was in Pittsburgh, and then followed that up with a pair of good seasons in Washington. For some reason, he never panned out here, but he has had some staying power in the league.

Bostic was a very cut-and-dry player when you put on his tape. He wasn’t a dynamic athlete, nor could he do a lot in coverage, but he was instinctual enough to play the run well. He was even serving as an every-down starter for Washington during two of the three years he played there. He was never going to be the best defender on the field, but teams could do worse than fielding him on their roster.

Unfortunately, 2021 lead to Bostic playing through some injuries, but even when he was healthy, he wasn’t seeing the same snap counts as before. Now, he finds himself an over thirty free agent with no clear interest from anyone in the league. Like James, Bostic’s best chance will be a late camp injury. Even then, his time in the NFL may be up.
