The Pittsburgh Steelers spent a lot of money this offseason, but here are three decisions we would like them to do over if given the chance.

It’s hard to have too many complaints about the Pittsburgh Steelers 2022 offseason. During his final months as the team’s general manager, Kevin Colbert attempted to work his magic once more and leave the Steelers in good hands.

While Pittsburgh spent a lot of money they typically don’t have, they didn’t exactly go big with most of their signings. On paper, the roster is certainly improved from what it was immediately following the 2021 season, but here are three free agent do-overs I wish the Steelers could have had during the 2022 offseason:

Steelers should have signed Tretter instead of Cole

I wasn’t a big fan of the Mason Cole signing — both at the time and upon further evaluation. In my assessment, Cole is an average starting interior offensive lineman who hasn’t been outstanding at either guard or center early in his NFL career.

For the Steelers, Cole is slated to be the starting center this year. While he should be an instant upgrade over Kendrick Green, that’s not exactly a high bar to clear.

Meanwhile, former Browns center JC Tretter is sitting in free agency as we speak — ripe for the picking. At 31 years old, Tretter probably doesn’t have as much left in the tank as a player like Cole (26), but neither is guaranteed to be the long-term answer at the position anyway. In my opinion, Tretter is simply the better player and I would rather have another solid player on the OL rather than a player with pretty low expectations in Mason Cole.
