Steelers will face Deshaun Watson

If – and at this point, it’s a big “if” – Deshaun Watson gets to take the field this year, it’s possible that the new Cleveland quarterback shows why his talents were so sought after this offseason.

Off-the-field circumstances aside, Watson demonstrated in his four years with Houston that he has the ability to be a top-tier triggerman. In 2020, he thanked the Texans for a hefty extension by posting career bests in passing yards (4,823), touchdown strikes (33), and completion percentage (70.2%).

However, Houston only managed four victories – a far cry from reaching the postseason the fall before. After bowing to Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City in a divisional-round clash – when they once held a three-possession lead – he demanded he is shipped out following the poor collective showing.

In large part because of the way things were being run in the Texans organization, he sat all of last season. Assuming he gets suspended, it will be interesting to see how he shakes the rust off.

If he gets back before the Browns’ second bout with the Steelers – and returns to pandemic form – his team will be pleased. And Pittsburgh will have yet another problem to deal with in the AFC North.
