Steelers building block #2

While the defense seemingly has a wealth of talent, the offense is a bit lacking. While new quarterbacks Mitchell Trubisky and Kenny Pickett are a lot of fun to fantasize about, neither can be counted on yet as building blocks. The hope is obviously that Pickett gets there, but that is not set in stone.

What is set in stone is that the Steelers want to run the ball more. While the line is still getting there, they have their bell-cow back in Najee Harris ready to go. He may not have been efficient as a rookie, but Harris has all of the traits you want in a top back. This offense is already being built around him, and he should continue to be the focus of this unit while the quarterbacks get sorted out.

While the timeline of Harris being a building block won’t be long as running backs have short shelf lives, for the here and now, he is the offense. While the team should find a quality backup for him so they don’t run him into the ground during the season, that doesn’t mean his impact won’t be felt. He is the current face of this offense and should continue to be through his rookie deal.
