Cam Sutton needs to be one of the best slot corners in the NFL

Cam Sutton seems like he is primed for a big season for the Steelers. He is the most proven cornerback on the defense, which desperately needs help at the position. Right now, that room is full of many different question marks, but Sutton has become a stable contributor.

This is a contract that the team should investigate extending during training camp. If they neglect to do so, they could be playing with some fire. A situation could arise where he has a monster year and demands top money on the open market and a bidding war ensues.

That would be the worst-case scenario when it comes to the relationship between this player and the franchise continuing. He signed a nice team-friendly contract last time to aim for cashing in with a longer-term contract this time around. Sutton seems like he will need to prove himself again before getting some offers from Pittsburgh after the schedule ends.

The black and gold need proven players at the cornerback spot and Sutton falls into that category. Ahkello Witherspoon and Levi Wallace are the starting outside cornerbacks this season and that could lead to a good duo or a disaster. Sutton should be able to keep the slot in shutdown mode.
