Steelers WR Chase Claypool

Next to Devin Bush, the only other Steelers veteran to have a similar disappointing showing was Chase Claypool. He had a spectacular rookie season, but once it ended, his problems began. When the Steelers got sent home by Cleveland, how did Claypool react? He quipped that he wasn’t sweating the loss; Kansas City would dispatch Cleveland in the next round. It’s not a reaction you want to hear from a player who plays for a team that has taken home six Lombardi Trophies.

Then more problems came in the off-season. Claypool was involved in a scuffle outside a bar in California where he supposedly kicked a man in the head while he was on the ground. Fortunately, he avoided a suspension from the NFL. Then the 2021 season began, and things only went downhill from there.

He caused a distraction and ruffled feathers, especially Mike Tomlin, when asked what the Steelers could do in practice to improve after their loss to the Bengals, at which point Claypool felt the Steelers should add music to their practice warmups. Then in the Minnesota game, his need to be a diva perhaps cost the Steelers a victory by burning five seconds off the clock.
