Steelers HC Mike Tomlin

Ordinarily, any head coach that has never had a losing season in their first 15 years can expect an induction into the Hall of Fame in Canton. Only two head coaches have had better success than Mike Tomlin, George Halas, and Curly Lambeau.

Yes, Mike Tomlin will end up there at some point, but he needs to finish his tenure as Steelers coach first; however, one does not always expect fans to call for the retirement of a coach who has never had a losing season either. It’s not like the road will get any easier for Tomlin in 2023.

The problem with Tomlin is twofold. First, he lets himself get outcoached by making boneheaded play calls when the situation perhaps calls for a more straightforward solution. Case in point the Steelers sign a temporary replacement for Chris Boswell yet refuses to allow him to attempt a field goal. If you’re going to sign a placekicker, then the rational thought is that he should be good enough and reasonably expect that he can make the kick.

It’s that type of mentality that has led to the loss of a few games in his tenure. However, here is what the critics do get right about Mike Tomlin.
