Eric Ebron will not be returning to the Steelers with other tight ends emerging

Eric Ebron was in Pittsburgh for the last couple of seasons and things went good at first then bad. The relationship between the team and player started off well as the tight end started to play a big role on offense. He was a big target in the red zone and was able to become a safety blanket for Ben Roethlisberger in the passing game.

That 2020 year was something that made this marriage seem profitable for both sides. 2021 seemed like a season where Ebron could take his game to the next level and hopefully create for a nice tandem with newly drafted Pat Freiermuth. A big year would have meant a nice payday when free agency rolled around.

Sadly, for both this team and the player, this hope of a dynamic duo would not happen for the Steelers. Freiermuth would become the main tight end and Zach Gentry emerged as a nice second option on the depth chart. Ebron was left fighting for snaps and struggled to stay healthy and produce on the field.

He is currently still searching for work as he continues to be ready for an opportunity to be thrown his way. He is a big-bodied receiver basically as his blocking skills have never developed at the next level. He is starting to run out of chances in this league, but he should get another here soon.
