4 big name free agents that the Steelers could bring in
By Andrew Falce
Steelers should sign Hightower
One of the Steelers deepest positions on the roster also happens to be their weakest. While linebacker has a slew of options who could realistically make the roster, the starters on down are a relatively questionable group. Even if both Myles Jack and Devin Bush work out, having a more capable backup than Robert Spillane wouldn’t be the worst idea.
A player that has seemingly always been on the Steelers radar, Dont’a Hightower is available as of this writing. The team reportedly wanted to draft him (they took David DeCastro instead), and they almost signed him a few seasons ago as a free agent before he returned to the Patriots. He has strong ties with defensive coach Brian Flores as well, which furthers the argument that he could be a valuable addition.
While age is starting to cut into his ability, Hightower is still a capable run defender. Considering Bush struggled there last season adding some stiffer competition makes sense. Hightower will push both of the starters and could win the job if either slip-up. He is a talented option that would better fill out this depth chart. He makes a lot of sense for this team this late in the offseason.
The Steelers have a relatively set roster already, but there are still holes that can be filled. In particular, these four big-name free agents are still available, and they would help fill out this roster. Keep an eye on them as the team gets closer to training camp.
