Steelers should trade for OT Mekhi Becton

A recent report from ESPN Insider Dan Graziano suggests that there is ‘frustration’ with the New York Jets coaching staff when it comes to offensive tackle Mekhi Becton. Apparently, the Jets aren’t pleased about his weight and they aren’t sure what to do about it anymore.

Connor Hughes of The Athletic reported that Becton was pushing 400 pounds when he showed up at the Jets mandatory minicamp. These are certainly some red flags, but they could be ignored for a player of his caliber.

During his rookie season in 2020, Becton played left tackle for the Jets and looked like a star in the making. Unfortunately, the mammoth offensive tackle injured his knee and appeared in just one game last year. New York’s frustration with Becton could be Pittsburgh’s gain.

The Steelers have traded for a former first-rounder on a rookie contract just a few years back (Minkah Fitzpatrick in 2019) so they might be willing to do the same for a player at one of the most important positions in football. Becton is just 23 years old and his freakish length and frame (6’7” with 35 5/8” arms) will give them unlimited tools to work with. Bleacher Report suggests that he could be had for a second and fourth-round pick.
