The Steelers have a talented roster going into the 2022 season, but several projected starters could be out the door next offseason. Here are three players who could be replaced for 2023.

The Steelers always have one goal in mind: being the best team they can possibly be in any given year. That sounds simple, but other NFL teams tend to have more of an eye toward the future, not just the present.

That is a big part of why HC Mike Tomlin has yet to have a losing season in 15 years as the Steelers leading man. The trade-off is having a relatively low ceiling most years, especially now that they have not had elite QB play for several seasons.

This season, Pittsburgh has several starting spots occupied by players who are either in the last year of their contract or are relatively unproven. The Steelers have the 9th most expected cap in 2023 according to Spotrac, so they will have the opportunity to upgrade those spots if the current starters don’t earn their keep.

Free agency is rarely a big part of how the Steelers build their roster, but that changed a bit this year under new GM Omar Khan. It’s too early to know if this year was an outlier or not, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see them be more active in free agency moving forward.

Here are three starters who could be replaced in 2023, starting with a former 10th overall pick.
