The Pittsburgh Steelers have turned some heads with their preseason performances so far, but their potential has not only been shown on the field.
On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers escaped the Jacksonville Jaguars 16-15 to bring their preseason record to a respectable 2-0.
The game, similar to the one against Seattle from the Saturday before, was highlighted by promising displays from multiple quarterbacks—something that has heavily boosted morale within Steeler Nation.
But just because QB play may be the talk of the town doesn’t mean that there is nothing else to discuss. In fact, there is another thing that has also been noteworthy in this preseason stretch so far that hasn’t even been seen on the field—the presence of fans.
Acrisure Stadium was absolutely pumped as the Steelers downed the Seahawks, but a strong fan presence is to be expected when considering the circumstances surrounding that meeting. Pittsburgh is known for its passionate fan base, and it was playing at home for its first preseason game of the year. The same cannot be said about the Jacksonville game, though.
This second time around, you could hear the crowd cheer whenever the Jags made a play (obviously), but you could say the same thing about whenever the Steelers did so. Also, during Jacksonville’s attempts at field goals and PATs, you could see a multitude of Terrible Towels waving behind the uprights.
Steelers fans show their support on the road
TIAA Bank Field may not have seen a full house, and Pittsburgh fans are renowned for having a nationwide footprint, but it’s still inspiring to see them have such a strong voice in the audience when visiting adversaries as distant as the Jaguars.
Seeing a powerful road-game presence for a matchup that is ultimately useless (at least in regards to impacting a team’s journey) shows just how excited Steelers fans are for this new era that is in the midst of taking over the franchise.
And if one can develop that takeaway after just two preseason games, imagine how deafening a battle against postseason hopefuls/divisional rivals at Acrisure could be over the course of this season.
Pittsburgh is far from great, and its upcoming schedule is sure to be tough on it at times, but the fans know that, and they stand by their legendary franchise nonetheless.
Seeing some diehards in a preseason crowd may not sound like too grand of a sight by itself, but it feels like something much greater today—it feels like Steeler Nation is getting ready for something big.
That, combined with the rising formidability of Pittsburgh’s roster, should have you more hyped for the future than you have ever been before.
