The Pittsburgh Steelers will pay tribute to Dwayne Haskins with a helmet decal in 2022 following his passing in April.
In a move that many anticipated, the Pittsburgh Steelers will pay tribute to their late quarterback, Dwayne Haskins. The team’s senior director of sports communications, Burt Lauten, confirmed on Friday that the Steelers will honor the life of Haskins by wearing a ‘number 3’ sticker on their helmets throughout the course of the 2022 season.

This past April, Kevin Colbert, Mike Tomlin, and the Steelers front office were preparing for the 2022 NFL Draft when they heard of the tragic news. Haskins was hit by a vehicle when crossing a highway and was pronounced dead on the scene. Steelers Nation joined the Haskins family in mourning his loss.
Haskins was in Florida at the time working out with fellow teammates including Najee Harris, Chase Claypool, and Mitch Trubisky. The Steelers quarterback was just 24 years old.
Steelers honor Haskins
There won’t be a game that goes by this year when Haskins’ former coaches and teammates aren’t thinking about him. Just before taking the field each week, Steelers players will see that ‘number 3’ on the back of their helmets and remember a man who lost his life far too soon.
The Pittsburgh Steelers play their first game of the 2022 season against the Cincinnati Bengals on the road on Sunday, September 11th — a date that holds plenty of memories of its own. In addition to a moment of silence to remember the victims of 9/11, it’s possible the Steelers decal honoring Haskins is also recognized at some point during the broadcast.
While Dwayne Haskins wasn’t even a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers for a full offseason, the organization made the right choice to honor him after his tragic passing.
