Steelers trade QB Mitch Trubisky to Colts

Steelers get: 5th-round pick in 2023

Colts get: QB Mitch Trubisky, 6th-round pick in 2023

I’m not sure if the Indianapolis Colts is the right team for this deal, as they are already investing a lot of money into the quarterback position in 2022. However, the Colts are currently in second place in a wide-open AFC South, and competent QB play might be all they need for a shot at the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Matt Ryan has performed so poorly that the team has turned to second-year man, Sam Ehlinger at the QB position. Trubisky certainly isn’t a great NFL QB, but he could do enough to simply manage the game on a respectable Colts team. Even if he’s simply brought in for security purposes, it might be worth a late-round pick for them at this point.

Whether it’s through a trade with the Colts or some other team, I would love for the Steelers to be able to trade away Mitch Trubisky before the deadline. Mike Tomlin made the decision to go with Kenny Pickett, and he’s not going back (nor should he). If an injury were to occur, the team turn to Mason Rudolph, who has plenty of experience running this offense.

The Steelers aren’t going to be competitors this year anyway, so I would certainly be open to the idea of trading away one of their backup quarterbacks. However, the team has made it clear that they don’t want another 2019 situation on their hands again.
