When is Chris Boswell Coming Back?
By Tommy Jaggi
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been without Chris Boswell since Week 7. How soon could one of the best kickers in the league make his return to the field?
For a team that has struggled as badly as the Pittsburgh Steelers have offensively, it’s never good to be missing one of the best kickers in the league in the second stretch of the season. However, that has been the case for former Pro Bowl kicker, Chris Boswell.
Boswell has been out of commission since suffering a groin injury back in Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins — a game the Steelers ultimately lost 16-10.
Due to the severity of his groin injury, Pittsburgh placed Boswell on the injured reserve list on November 10th — shutting him down for a minimum of four weeks. The good news is that the former Pro Bowl kicker will be making his return soon, as the best-case scenario since landing on IR is playing out.
In his absence, the Steelers had a brief stint with kicker Nick Sciba before signing Matthew Wright (who was previously with the Chiefs, filling in for an injured Harrison Butker). Wright did a quality job in his stead.
Latest Injury Update for Chris Boswell
After already serving four games on the injured reserve list, Chris Boswell is now technically eligible to make his return in Week 14 when Mike Tomlin’s team faces the Baltimore Ravens at home this Sunday. As of Saturday afternoon, we didn’t if this was going to happen or not. The good news is that we recently received confirmation that Chris Boswell will return this week.
ESPN’s Brooke Pryor reported that Boswell has officially been moved from IR to the active roster. To make room for this roster move, Pittsburgh released stop-gap kicker, Matthew Wright.
Chris Boswell will play this week against the Ravens. This is fantastic news for a team that is 3-1 since the bye week and searching for their third straight win. With a victory in Week 14, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be just one game back from .500 and right in the thick of things in the AFC Wild Card race.
In a game that is projected to be a low-scoring slugfest between two hard-nosed AFC rivals, having one of the best kickers in the game could help dictate whether or not this team emerges victorious when the final seconds tick off the clock.
