Santa needs to bring the Steelers a true replacement for Tuitt

Stephon Tuitt retired last offseason and it took the Steelers by surprise. They were able to find a stand-in on short notice by signing Larry Ogunjobi on a one-year contract. That deal has seen mixed results for the defensive trenches this year as they continue to struggle against the run game.

One of the big things that the black and gold are known for is their defense’s ability to stop their opponent from running the ball. That has gone by the wayside in recent years, and it is embarrassing to watch this team attempt to stop the opposition every week. It needs to be fixed and the best way to find a resolution is to find a stable contributor next to Cam Heyward.

Ogunjobi could always return if he decides another cheap contract with a short number of years is something he is comfortable with. That is not likely and that will make the Steelers even more desperate to find a solid starter next to Heyward by the time next season comes around. There are not too many choices when it comes to high level players in the offseason.

People would love for Javon Hargrave to return to Pittsburgh during free agency, but their current cap constraints will not make that a real possibility. The draft might be the better choice, but both top prospects could be gone when Pittsburgh’s selection is up. Jalen Carter and Bryan Bresee come to mind as immediate fits to help this defensive front improve.
