Steelers mock draft round 2 (via CHI): OT Darnell Wright

With their decision to go with a top-notch boundary cornerback in the first round, the Pittsburgh Steelers miss out on the first wave of offensive tackles. This team hasn’t taken an OT in the first round in 26 years, so it wouldn’t be a shocker if they waited to get their guy on day two.

Because of this, I have them going with Tennessee offensive tackle, Darnell Wright. At 6’6” and 335 pounds, Wright is a mammoth offensive lineman who plays right tackle for the Tennesee Volunteers. While Pittsburgh would prefer the left tackle, those prospects are hard to come by.

With this selection, the Steelers would likely insert Wright as their starter next to James Daniels on the right side of the line, while Chukwuma Okorafor would likely revert back to left tackle — sending Dan Moore to the bench as the swing OT.

Wright is a senior who has improved each of the past three seasons. He will give the Steelers a powerful anchor along their offensive line. Though a nimble pass protector is more highly coveted in today’s NFL, Wright fits the mold of what they want to do on the ground.
