Steelers news: Coaching decisions on hold, Titans snatch John Leglue, and more
By Tommy Jaggi
Pittsburgh has some big decisions to make in the near future, but for now, they will be on hold. Here’s the latest Steelers news you need to know.
Right now, even Pittsburgh Steelers fans are taking a quick break to focus on the NFL playoffs after an exciting Wild Card round this past weekend. Prior to this, however, fans were hoping to hear of some major coaching changes — none more important than the decision with Matt Canada.
Sadly, that’s going to have to wait a bit longer. As fans look forward to changes that could potentially vault this team into playoff contention in 2023, we will have to wait just a bit longer as the latest Steelers news explains the lack of movement on Pittsburgh’s front.
Steelers news
On Wednesday, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reported that Steelers coaching decisions are being put on hold for the time being as Mike Tomlin deals with a personal matter. While Kaboly didn’t go into great detail, it sounds like these jobs will be reassessed in the near future when Tomlin returns.
Of the coaches who could get the axe for Pittsburgh this offseason, none has drawn more interest than Matt Canada. After scoring just 18.1 points per game this year, fans are ready for the next chapter. However, it looks like we are going to have to wait a bit longer to find out what the organization intends to do with its offensive coordinator.
More Steelers news
In other Steelers news, the Tennessee Titans have recently signed OG John Leglue to a futures contract. Leglue spent time on Pittsburgh’s practice squad. When called upon in 2021, Leglue had some impressive moments.
Many fans thought that Leglue was deserving of the final roster spot on the offensive line this year after a pretty strong summer. However, that ultimately went to former third-round pick, Kendrick Green. Now Leglue will look for an opportunity to prove himself with his new team.
NFL news
There have been a few more firings around the league as teams are cleaning out their coordinators. One report states that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan to move on from OC Byron Leftwich. Recently, a rumor from Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan suggested that Pittsburgh was waiting to see what the Bucs would do with Leftwich before making a decision to fire Matt Canada.
Now that Tomlin is dealing with a personal matter, we can probably chalk it up to that. However, Leftwich and Tomlin do have a history, so this would make some sense if he does officially get fired.
