Steelers news: Brian Flores odds to land HC job, no projected compensatory picks, and more
By Tommy Jaggi
Pittsburgh fans are waiting to see if Brian Flores will be poached by another team for a higher position. Here’s the latest Steelers news you need to know.
Rashard Mendenhall made the news earlier this week after taking a shot at Ben Roethlisberger. Now it’s time to put this drama behind us and focus on what could be happening around the organization. In addition to Matt Canada, Brian Flores has been a hot topic in Steelers news since the season ended, and there’s a good reason why.
The latest Steelers news doesn’t include any concrete moves just yet, but recent odds and predictions offer some compelling insight. Here’s what you need to know.
Steelers news
On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers senior defensive assistant, Brian Flores, reportedly had an interview with the Arizona Cardinals for their vacant head coaching position. Because of this, oddsmakers believe he has a good chance of putting pen to paper and becoming the new HC.
According to BetOnline, Flores has the second-highest odds of becoming Arizona’s next head coach. Initially, no coach had better odds. Now only Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, has surpassed him on this list. If Flores doesn’t land this job, it still seems likely that he could get a call to be a defensive coordinator with a new team in 2023.

Unfortunately, because of how things worked out this past offseason, it doesn’t look like the Pittsburgh Steelers will be receiving a single compensatory pick in 2023.
Recently, Over the Cap posted an article projecting every compensatory pick that will be awarded this year. Nick Korte of OTC believes that Pittsburgh’s free agent spending during the 2022 offseason has financially canceled out losses of players like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Ray-Ray McCloud, and James Washington.
Korte believes that the only third-round picks will go to the Cardinals and Commanders after losing WR Christian Kirk and OG Brandon Scherff, respectively. The good news is that OTC is projecting that no other AFC North opponent will be awarded compensatory picks this year either.
