Steelers must watch Andrew Vorhees, IOL USC

The offensive line is the theme here early. The Steelers have ignored their offensive line for far too long early in the draft and it has come back to haunt them with a below-average line since the core broke up.

Andrew Vorhees brings versatility to the offensive line with snaps at both right and left guard, as well as left tackle. This type of experience drives the value of draft prospects up due to being able to provide quality depth if they do not start right away.

Vorhees is like Dawand Jones in the sense that his run blocking is the strongest part of his skill set coming into the draft. He stands 6-foot-6-inch tall and 325 pounds according to his profile on USC’s team site, so his frame allows him to control defenders at the point of attack in the run game.

Vorhees projects to play inside at the NFL level and that is a position the Steelers need to consider in the draft. Kevin Dotson has shown flashes but there have also been some bad moments over his career.

With a potential franchise QB in place in Kenny Pickett, the Steelers need to ensure he has the protection necessary to make his reads and command the offense. That starts with investing higher picks into an offensive line that could use some improvement on the left side.
