5. Steelers could target OL Cody Mauch

Typically, when North Dakota State players are invited to the Senior Bowl, there’s a good reason. Over the past several years, this small school has produced early-round prospects like OL Dillon Radunz and WR Christian Watson. Obviously, there is risk involved in taking small-school players, but there is an upside as well.

For those who were fans of Quinn Meinerz at the Senior Bowl in 2021, you are going to like Cody Mauch. Outside of the long hair and belly shirt, these two players both have a great blend of footwork and traits. Mauch has been very good on his one-on-one reps so far in mobile, has the foot quickness to keep his guy in front of him, and has the demeanor to finish through the whistle.

Though Mauch played tackle for North Dakota State, that was for a non-Power 5 school and he will be forced to make the massive leap in competition in the NFL. His measurements (6’4 3/4”, 305 lbs, and 32 1/8” arms) suggest that he will have to kick inside at the next level — maybe even play center in the NFL.

So far, Mauch has played both offensive guard and center during Senior Bowl practices. These aren’t as dire of needs for the Steelers, but they could still use upgrades at these positions. Cody Mauch projects as a day-two pick who could be a quality starter along the interior offensive line. It will be interesting to see if Pittsburgh has any interest in this small-school player outside of their typical scouting region.
