Taylor Lewan opens up about his beef with T.J. Watt and prospects separate themselves from the pack at the Senior Bowl. Here’s the latest Steelers news.

Just before Pro Bowl weekend in the NFL, the focus around the league is on the 2023 Reese’s Senior Bowl. The best college seniors around the nation joined together this week to represent the National and American Teams in a week of practice that will be followed by the Senior Bowl game on Saturday.

While the news has been pretty quiet on Pittsburgh’s front, Taylor Lewan popped back up again as a topic of discussion among fans after posting his latest video. Here’s the Steelers news you need to know.

Steelers news

On Wednesday afternoon, Tennessee Titans offensive tackle, Taylor Lewan, took to Twitter to release a video about the beef that he and T.J. Watt have had with each other in the past. Lewan expressed his frustration that Watt has turned him down three times in a row when asked to join his podcast. Here’s what Lewan had to say about Watt rejecting his proposal:

"“This [explitive] just told us ‘no.’ He just denied us for the third time in a row… If he wants to be teammates, it kind of just feels like that’s just bad teammate vibes, right? We’ve had our past. Yeah, I spit in his face; I hit him in the nuts one time. Like, that is, listen, hand up; that’s on me. But [explitive] boys. Can we turn a page? Let’s just turn a page and move on.”"

Lewan certainly seems interested in joining the Steelers in 2023. Interestingly, the veteran offensive tackle is still technically under contract with the Titans. However, Lewan apparently expects to be released, as Tennessee would save all $14.8 million of his cap hit with his departure from the team. It’s unclear if the Steelers have any interest in Lewan, but Watt certainly doesn’t seem like he does.

In other Steelers news, Mike Tomlin has apparently found a player he really likes in Mobile. According to beat writer Nick Farabaugh, Wisconson DT Keeanu Benton said that Tomlin told him that ‘I was on his radar.’ Pittsburgh apparently has an interest in the stout interior defender, and it’s not hard to see why.

Benton measured in at the Senior Bowl at 6’3 3/8” and 312 pounds with 33 3/4” arms. While he didn’t have great college production, his best year came as a senior in 2022 and he has a good combination of power and quickness for an interior defender. This team has needs at defensive tackle, and Benton looks like a realistic candidate for Pittsburgh in the 2023 NFL Draft.

NFL news

In NFL news, a few Senior Bowl players were making headlines after the first two days of practice. Ohio State offensive tackle, Dawand Jones, is stealing the spotlight after measuring in as one of the biggest players we have ever seen. He had an impressive start to Senior Bowl week. Additionally, Lance Zierlein and Eric Edholm of NFL.com listed their Senior Bowl standouts and names like Jones, DT DJ Dale, TE Luke Musgrave, WR Puka Nacua, and C John Michael Schmitz made the cut.
