2. Steelers should target Tennessee OT Darnell Wright

I’ll be the first to admit that Darnell Wright was much more impressive at the Senior Bowl than I thought he would be. I didn’t get a chance to watch a ton of his tape before Senior Bowl week, and I was quick to jump the gun about a 342-pound right tackle prospect. However, I was thrilled by what I saw.

Though Wright wasn’t perfect during Senior Bowl week, he did more than impressed in his reps — particularly in pass protection drills. Wright showcased tremendous foot quickness for a massive offensive tackle prospect — proving that this won’t be an issue at the next level. He stonewalled athletic pass rushers and effortlessly pushed them around the arc.

Wright is quick-footed enough that the Pittsburgh Steelers could try him out at left tackle. If he fails there, he could always fall back to RT, and his body type is suited for guard as well in the worst-case scenario that he fails at both.

There are still at least three offensive tackle prospects that I like better in this draft class, but there’s no doubt in my mind that Darnell Wright would be an improvement over the tackles that the Steelers are currently starting. He only improved his status with a strong Senior Bowl week, and he should be in serious consideration with one of Pittsburgh’s second-round picks if he’s still on the board.
