5. Steelers should target TCU OG Steve Avila

If the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a true guard by the very definition who could be a sizeable upgrade from Kevin Dotson, look no further than Steve Avila from TCU. While this seems like a player out of Pittsburgh’s typical scouting region, their brass got a good look at him during Senior Bowl week and he should be squarely on their radar.

Outside of maybe only O’Cyrus Torrence, Avila was the most impressive and most consistent offensive lineman in Mobile, Alabama this year. Avila measured in at 6’3” and 332 pounds with relatively short arms and a small wingspan. However, this doesn’t matter nearly as much when you’re playing inside.

In addition to being a sound technician, Avila has surprisingly quick feet considering his thick, squatty frame. However, he also plays with tremendous leverage and is rarely knocked off balance.

Avila didn’t grade out as well in 2022 as he did in his previous two years at TCU, but an outstanding Senior Bowl week clearly put any of these worries to rest. He is a plug-and-play left guard with Pro Bowl upside who should have a long NFL career, and the Steelers must consider him on day two of the NFL Draft.
