1. Steelers should target Peter Skoronski
There are varying opinions about the top offensive tackle prospect in this class. Some media outlets still have Peter Skoronski as the top OT prospect coming out this year. Of the top tackles this year, Skoronski seems like a safe, but somewhat unspectacular prospect.
At 6’4” and 315 pounds, Skoronski has a thick, squatty build. However, his arm length is said to be a concern as many believe he will measure in around the 32” mark at the NFL combine. If this proves to be the case, this could hurt his status. Some have flirted with the idea of moving Skoronski to guard in the NFL, but taking a guard in the first round isn’t nearly as valuable as the offensive tackle.
At worst, there’s no question Skoronski would be a plug-and-play starter who would be an improvement over Dan Moore. He has graded out as one of the better offensive tackles in the country for three straight years — earning an 89.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus this year (5th in the nation among offensive tackles).
Skornoski is just an average athlete and probably doesn’t have immense upside, but he’s a stout technician who could probably play any position across the offensive line if the Steelers needed him to. Early in the process, many considered him to be a top-five selection, but it’s possible Pittsburgh could stand pat and take him with the 17th overall pick.
