Cameron Heyward has already had a terrific NFL career, but here’s why the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro defender is nowhere near finished.

If Cameron Heyward called a press conference tomorrow and announced to the nation that he will be hanging up his cleats for good, the NFL would join in unison praising Heyward for an illustrious professional football career. Heyward would retire with a number of accolades including Pro Bowls and nominations for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

While Steelers media and the National media alike would consider him one of the greatest players on the team and one of the best at his position during his generation, that isn’t enough for Heyward… and as fans, that’s always what we want to hear.

Recently, Heyward joined Dave Dameshek on the Minus Three Podcast to discuss whether or not Heyward believes he is Hall of Fame bound.

Heyward admitted that he believes he is on track to be a Hall of Famer. However, Pittsburgh’s team captain and most tenured player didn’t stop there. He is setting the bar even higher.

Heyward started two goals during the podcast: to earn a Super Bowl victory and to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Will the Steelers star achieve his goals?

At this rate, at least one of these is achievable. Heyward can certainly become a future Hall of Famer — likely with just one or two more good seasons. Right now, Heyward has earned 6 Pro Bowls and 3 First-Team All-Pro honors in 12 NFL seasons. Surprisingly, his first of these personal accolades didn’t come until his seventh season as a professional. However, he has been as good as any interior defender not named Aaron Donald during that span.

When it comes to the Hall of Fame, Heyward is likely to get his wish if plans on playing for a few more years. As far as a Super Bowl goes, that’s a different story. After watching the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, this is a team that has a ways to go before they can be considered legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Heyward is going to need a lot of help in accomplishing this goal, as so much of the team’s success falls on the coaching, quarterback, play-calling, and the offense. If Kenny Pickett can take a massive step forward, this will still be attainable during Heward’s career.

Let’s hope that proves to be the case, as Cameron Heyward is as deserving as anyone to earn a Super Bowl ring. Even if it doesn’t happen, I love that he’s setting the bar high as he continues to push himself to be the best player he can be for his team.
