Now that the Steelers 2022 season is over, they turn towards the 2023 season. Decisions as to who stays who goes free agents to target and draft choices.

It will take almost two months before any of these decisions are made known. Sadly, it looks like a Matt Canada departure isn’t happening this year. Then you have Terrell Edmunds, either in earnest or jest, who may try to recruit his brother Tremaine Edmunds. Not to mention Terrell’s future with the franchise is also uncertain at best, as he is a free agent at the end of the season.

The positions the Steelers need to target in free agency will come under intense scrutiny, such as whether they target offensive linemen or linebackers, given that Devin Bush may not return to the Steelers in 2023. Pittsburgh will also need to address its secondary.

The wait to see what happens will be painfully slow, but to wet your whistle, here are four bold predictions of what the Pittsburgh Steelers might do during the 2023 offseason.

4. The Steelers could re-sign Terrell Edmunds

As you recall, Terrell Edmunds tested free agency in 2022, got no reasonable offers, and inked a one-year deal to return to the Steelers for the 2022 season. Why the Steelers even let him get that far is a question that no one has reasonably answered.

Edmunds has always been a solid player for the Steelers. He does not dazzle you like Minkah Fitzpatrick might or like his predecessor, Troy Polamalu. However, he’s a sold lockdown safety that rarely gets burned. He’s reliable in that, in five seasons, he’s only missed 3 games. He may only have five total interceptions but has 410 tackles and 276 solo five sacks, and 15 tackles for a loss.

Perhaps the Steelers could take their chances in the draft, but with Edmunds, they know what they have. Letting him go to another team would be a considerable loss and create a gaping hole in their secondary.

The Steelers would be hard-pressed to give a credible explanation to justify letting him go. If they were smart, they would keep him and Fitzpatrick together as long as they can and then target a lockdown cornerback, something they have not had since the days of Rod Woodson.
