It's officially cutdown day across the NFL, and the Pittsburgh Steelers have plenty of work remaining to get down to their initial 53-man roster. Most of that work will come in the form of cuts to their existing roster, which they have already started the process of making.
While the vast majority of players who will make the team are already on the roster, outside options are always something to consider. The Steelers have already made a significant trade, sending Broderick Jones to the Dallas Cowboys, and more moves like that could be in the cards depending on who team's make available.
With questionable depth at multiple positions, Pittsburgh could benefit from taking a look at potential trade candidates around the league who could be had for cheap. Here are three players who might be available for the right price.
The Pittsburgh Steelers should check on the trade price for these 3 players
Broncos LB Drew Sanders
To call Drew Sanders' career with the Broncos a disappointment would be a massive understatement. Injuries have limited the 2023 third-round pick to just 21 career games and four starts, and he hasn't played well even when he has been healthy.
So why consider trading for him? Pittsburgh cut Jamin Davis on Saturday, who was playing a hybrid linebacker/edge role for Pittsburgh this summer. While he didn't do enough to make the roster, a player with that skill set may be something the Steelers are looking to add. Sanders played both edge and linebacker in college, and he would be a cheap pickup that could start on the practice squad and work his way into a role.
Broncos RB Jaleel McLaughlin
Sticking with the Broncos, running back Jaleel McLaughlin is a player who may be getting overlooked by his own team and the rest of the NFL. His first two seasons were impressive for the former UDFA, averaging 4.8 yards per attempt on 189 carries. Unfortunately, he fell out of favor last season due to the addition of 2025 second-round pick RJ Harvey.
After starting 2025 as a healthy scratch, starting RB J.K. Dobbins went down with an injury, opening the door for McLaughlin to get some touches again. It was only 37 carries, but he averaged a healthy 5.1 yards per attempt. If the Steelers want a high-floor third back they can trust more than Kaleb Johnson, McLaughlin could be an easy player to add via trade.
Saints S Jordan Howden
By far the most established player of the three options listed here, Jordan Howden is a player who could use a change of scenery after the Saints invested heavily in the safety position last year. With Julian Blackmon and Justin Reid expected to start, and 2025 third-round pick Jonas Sanker playing in the slot, Howden could see even less playing time than the 25% of snaps he played last season.
In Pittsburgh, he would easily be the best backup safety behind DeShon Elliott and Jaquan Brisker, and both have had injury issues that could thrust him into a starting role. Rayshawn Jenkins and rookie Robert Spears-Jennings haven't been bad this summer, but that shouldn't stop the Steelers from looking for an upgrade.
