The Steelers are set to face off against the Raiders in Las Vegas this weekend. Both teams are hungry for a win after coming off losses and regain momentum in their respective divisions. These 5 pivotal matchups in Vegas could sway a victory for the Steel City in Week 6.

Brock Bowers vs. Minkah Fitzpatrick

Despite the Raiders squad being plagued by injuries, TE Brock Bowers has emerged as a dependable target for the Raiders QB. The dynamic rookie TE has been averaging an impressive 11.2 yards per reception this season per ESPN. Given the depleted offensive lineup of the Raiders, with Davante Adams out and Jakobi Meyers questionable, it’s likely that Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell will frequently look to connect with target Bowers, making him a key player to watch.

The most probable matchup for Bowers will be against Steelers standout Minkah Fitzpatrick. While Fitzpatrick has been solid in making tackles this season, he has not yet caused a turnover or made a direct game-changing impact. Nevertheless, the Steelers safety is ready to challenge and rattle a young TE in this matchup.

Dan Moore Jr. and Broderick Jones takes on the fearless Maxx Crosby

One of the Steeler’s most daunting matchups will be Dan Moore Jr. and Broderick Jones against Maxx Crosby. Crosby, an absolute game-wrecker, has already secured 5 sacks this season, utilizing his incredible speed on the outside. Although the defensive end is currently listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup, there is little doubt that he will miss this competition.

Last season, both players lined up against each other, and Crosby was able to sack former Steelers QB Kenny Pickett in that game, along with two QB hits as well. Crosby was actually the only defensive player to rattle the Steelers QB that day. With a new season, and a new offensive line for the Steelers, the task of stopping the explosiveness of Mad Maxx will be even more difficult.

George Pickens vs. Jack Jones

In last season’s matchup, Pickens led his receiving group in receptions and yards (4 for 75) but was kept out of the endzone. Pickens is still searching for his first TD of the season and has a prime opportunity to bounce back this weekend if the Steelers can take advantage of a porous Raiders secondary.

This season, Jack Jones has come under scrutiny for allowing plays to get out hand and for lacking a sense of urgency or effort. With a big-name WR like George Pickens up next, all eyes will be on whether Jones can contain the elusive and crafty Pickens. It’s worth noting that Pickens is also trying to rebuild his reputation after a contentious exchange with Cowboys player last weekend.

Robert Spillane vs. Steelers offense

The former Steeler, Robert Spillane, has emerged as a defensive leader alongside Maxx Crosby. Currently, Spillane leads the team in tackles and has maintained his reputation as a game-disruptor. The Steelers need to be aware of Spillane’s whereabouts at all times, as he has a tendency to swiftly move from one side of the field to the other.

The Steelers run-game has been struggling, but fans can look forward to Najee Harris making a ton of contact with Robert Spillane in this game. Specifically, if Harris can get past the defensive line and into open field, Spillane may have his hands full dealing with the powerful runner.

Justin Fields vs. Raiders defense

The game on Sunday afternoon could be a season-changing opportunity for Fields to prove himself as a top QB. If he can exploit the Raider’s defense, which has been giving up an average of 26.2 points per game, it could elevate his status. The pressure is mounting as backup Steelers QB Russell Wilson continues to fully participate in practices this week. Fields will face tough challenges from Maxx Crosby and Robert Spillane, but if he is given enough time and space, we could witness a stellar performance from him.

This is undoubtedly listed as a trap-game for Steelers nation as the team has a history of underestimating opponents they should easily beat. However, last season, the Steelers silenced doubters and won 23-18. Due to the significance of this match and the numerous injuries on both teams, it’s likely to be another close game.
