Pittsburgh Steelers fans are still on Aaron Rodgers watch as the offseason rolls on, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. The former MVP has always marched to the beat of his own drum, so it's no surprise that this has dragged on this long.
Nobody but Rodgers himself can possibly know what he is thinking right now, but a recent rumor regarding the Steelers' schedule could factor into his decision.
According to Wide Left newsletter creator Arif Hasan, the Minnesota Vikings could be the Steelers' opponent when they travel to Dublin, Ireland, this season.
The opportunity to play in front of an international audience against his former rival could be just the incentive Rodgers needs to finally make up his mind.
Pittsburgh Steelers' rumored Dublin opponent could help bring Aaron Rodgers to the Steel City
Aaron Rodgers has denied it, but many have speculated that his lack of a decision on his future is partly due to the hope that other teams become desperate for a quarterback. The Vikings are one of those teams he supposedly has interest in, but they seem committed to second-year QB J.J. McCarthy.
Combined with their draft week trade for Sam Howell, the Vikings seem set at QB. That leaves Rodgers with few options, as it seems his decision is down to joining Pittsburgh or retiring. While retirement wouldn't be shocking, I believe he would have done so by now if he wanted that.
Instead, I think this news could potentially help sway Rodgers into signing. We already know that the Steelers will face the entire NFC North this season, something that I imagine the former Green Bay Packers star is excited about.
Getting to play his biggest rival from his Packers days one more time in front of a global audience may be too hard to pass up. Even if it isn't the Vikings, the Packers are also a potential choice to face the Steelers overseas. We all know Rodgers would love the opportunity to stick it to his old team at least once before he hangs up the cleats.
