Aaron Rodgers could spark another Pro Bowl WR with Steelers (and it's not DK Metcalf)

Well, the wait finally came to a halt. The Pittsburgh Steelers took the inevitable risk that was signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

We all knew this was going to happen eventually. But, what we don't know is what moves might be on the horizon after Rodgers' arrival. After all, Rodgers' track record speaks to the Steelers making more moves in the near future.

Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly happens to have the opinion that Pittsburgh should immediately go out and sign wide receiver Keenan Allen.

And, that's exactly what they should do.

Keenan Allen is the missing piece for Aaron Rodgers to make one last run with the Steelers

Last year with the Chicago Bears, Allen might not have been the exact same player he once was with the L.A. Chargers. But, he showed signs of being a top-level wide receiver at times, and he did so within a miserable offense led by Shane Waldron.

Allen is still one of the craftiest route runners in the NFL. That's a skill that doesn't easily go away. His ability to get open is something that Rodgers would absolutely love. Rodgers is obviously older, now, but his knack for extending plays might be rejuvenated a bit with someone like Allen in the fold.

DK Metcalf is certainly going to be a fun target, but Allen is the type who could handle more volume. Metcalf isn't a high-volume type of wide receiver. He's better on those intermediate and deeper routes, while Allen can be the one who handles even more targets.

An upgrade over the likes of Roman Wilson or Calvin Austin, Allen very well could make it right back to the Pro Bowl if Rodgers was able to convince both sides to come to an agreement.

At this point, the Steelers probably still need to add a pass catcher, but Davante Adams is with the Rams and, are we really going to call a potential Allen Lazard trade the thing that moves the needle?

Right now, the Steelers should be all-in on getting Keenan Allen.
