Another 'big name' WR trade option for the Steelers bites the dust
You can cross another potential trade option for the Steelers off your list of possibilities. Since the Tennessee Titans have struggled this season, many wondered if they would sell off some pieces before the deadline hits on November 5. They started early and have announced that they will be sending one of their top receivers out of Nashville for some draft capital.
DeAndre Hopkins will be going to the Kansas City Chiefs to boost their chances of winning their third Super Bowl in a row. It makes sense for both sides, and the Titans get a conditional fourth-round pick in return.
This is not a bad move, as one team is trying to add future pieces, and the other is trying to win now. Adding Hopkins is a bold move by the Chiefs, but taking a stab at a receiver via trade isn't out of the norm for Kansas City.
Before Kansas City added Hopkins, they had limited options at wide receiver. They still have Xavier Worthy, but guys like JuJu Smith-Schuster and Justin Watson could be improved upon. That weakness triggered them into trade conversations, which led to the Hopkins deal. If any good news comes from this, the Steelers have one less team to negotiate against in future trade discussions.
DeAndre Hopkins could 've been a nice trade upgrade for the Steelers
Even though some speculated the Steelers could be interested in a Hopkins trade, no legitimate reports ever came out. It made sense on the surface for both sides, especially with the "big name" receivers they had been tied to in previous reports. He might still be a solid player, but make no mistake about it, Hopkins is not the same level of receiver that he was a couple of years ago.
Hopkins is 32 years old and is coming off a 1,000-yard season, but his numbers haven't been at a godly production since 2020. Injuries and other factors have played into that, so we will have to see if Hopkins can turn back the clock with a better situation in Kansas City. He could've been a quality fit with the Steelers, but his better option was going to the Chiefs.
We will see where the black and gold turn from here. Reports are out there that Cooper Kupp is available leading up to the trade deadline. If the Steelers follow their recent trend of inquiring about top receivers, then they will likely show interest in Kupp. He would be a better option than Hopkins if he can find a way to remain healthy. Kupp's availability remains a premium concern.
Keep an eye on the trade market for the Steelers moving forward as Omar Khan remains antsy to try and improve his team. Their problems at the wide receiver position outside of George Pickens is still prevalent. They missed out on trading for Hopkins, but that isn't the end of the world. There are plenty of other choices out there for Pittsburgh to acquire if Khan and the team want to get a deal done.
