Browns veteran's delusional QB comment will have Steelers fans rolling

There has got to be something in the water over there in Cleveland.

Look, the Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback situation isn't exactly ideal. I think it's safe to say the fan base understands that. But the Browns, on the other hand, have a bottom-five quarterback room in the league.

Apparently, they just don't know it—or worse, they're pretending they've got the opposite.

Appearing on Good Morning Football this week, Browns defensive end Jared Verse was asked about the quarterback competition at hand between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. Any good teammate would respond by saying nice things, obviously. But Verse took it to the land of oblivion:

"These are two great quarterbacks ... so far I've just seen two elite quarterbacks battling it out."

Huh ... two elite quarterbacks, eh?

Jared Verse just gave Pittsburgh Steelers fans pure comedy gold they didn't ask for

So, first off, we're talking about a guy who, the last time he was seen on an NFL field, looked like the worst starting quarterback in the league. Back in 2024, Watson went 1-6 as a starter and ended those seven games with a measly QBR of only 21.0.

And second, his competition happens to be a spoiled-rotten kid coming off a rookie year that started by not hearing his name called in the 2025 NFL Draft until Round 5 after he was certain he'd be selected on Day 1.

Oh, and that kid, going into his second year, threw seven touchdowns versus 10 interceptions in seven starts last year.

But, hey! He was selected to the Pro Bowl! So, what do we know?

In all seriousness, I fully understand that Verse is trying to embrace Cleveland and be the type of leader their team needs, especially after trading Myles Garrett (thanks again, Mr. Snead). But to call Watson and Sanders "elite" just takes away all credibility as a player.

You can call them talented. You can even call them "great," which is far more subjective than "elite."

You just can't use the "e" word, here, and get away with it.

Now, you've let those words out and can't take them back.

What happens when either Watson or Sanders comes out and loses a game to the Steelers, this coming season, and Pittsburgh's defense makes either one of them look the fool?

Back up. To be frank, neither one of them needs assistance in being made the fool. We are talking about a duo that includes a guy who made the worst and most hilarious play of any offseason practice so far.

No, your eyes do not forsake you. That's a defensive lineman standing straight up, fully stationary, and putting forth zero effort. All the while, Shedeur throws it right into his arm.

Oh, yeah ... now that's elite.

I guess, when you're going from a legitimate Super Bowl contender to having to bail out two completely inept quarterbacks in your locker room, that'll change you.

To be honest, I actually feel bad for Verse. He is an elite player. If anyone knows the definition of that word, it should be him. But having no choice in the matter of going from the Rams to the Browns is a tough reality.

At the very least, kudos to Verse for embracing it and being a good teammate.

But seriously ... next time, you can't throw that word around like a beach ball on Warped Tour.
