It's time for a reunion in the Steel City! Aaron Rodgers is back for another go at it as the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he's reuniting with Mike McCarthy, who was hired by the team this offseason.
McCarthy and Rodgers were together for 13 years in Green Bay and won a Super Bowl together (ironically enough, against the Steelers). While things didn't necessarily end the greatest for them there, the consensus seems to be that they're excited to work together again.
Colin Cowherd, however, says to take that narrative with a grain of salt.
"This idea they were kumbaya is just bull****," Cowherd said on his podcast. "There was a story I read somewhere about people that dated for years and years, now they were in their 40s, they go on Facebook, meet each other, they reconnect. The article was, your memories are much greater than reality. Like, your memories are... 'Oh, I had so much fun with her.' And then you reconnect on Facebook, and after about two dates, you're like, 'Oh, God, this is why I dumped him or I dumped her.'
And it's the same way as people want to pretend that Mike [McCarthy] and Aaron [Rodgers], it wasn't that bad. It was bad. I had this really well-sourced; they're like, Aaron couldn't stand Mike. It was awful. Who are we kidding here?"
Colin Cowherd says things were "awful" between Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy
For those who might not remember, McCarthy was eventually fired by the Packers before the end of the 2018 season. Headlines had ramped up about Rodgers and him not getting along anymore, and it wasn't surprising to see the Packers side with their star quarterback over their head coach.
McCarthy landed with the Cowboys two years later, while Rodgers remained in Green Bay through the end of the 2022 season. It has seemed weird that the narrative has shifted to the two looking forward to working together again, but hey, maybe they have patched things up, and this isn't just a facade.
Plenty of time has passed since 2018, when things really came to a head between the two. At this stage of both of their careers, maybe they really are excited to work together again. Hopefully, for Steelers fans' sake, that truly is the case.
