Get ready because Daniel Jeremiah's mock draft 2.0 is hot off the press. He isn't holding any punches for Pittsburgh in this first-round mock draft. The Steelers didn't make any surprising moves, but they did have an unexpected player fall into their lap. With a strong draft class at positions like running back and defensive line, it is possible to acquire a starting-caliber player later in the draft.

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, they might not address this need early. Don't be shocked if Najee Harris gets re-signed to a massive extension despite the public outcry against him. The Steelers might not draft someone at the position until the third day of the draft. It would be disappointing, but this mock draft by Jeremiah throws caution to the wind.

Pittsburgh needs a refreshed approach at the running back position. If they decide to part ways with Harris, they would be foolish not to take his replacement within the first four rounds of the upcoming event. There are plenty of adequate choices in this draft who could improve their rushing attack.

The Steelers have a superstar replacement land in their lap.

Steelers upgrade Najee Harris for Ashton Jeanty in mock draft

Jeremiah has Pittsburgh selecting Ashton Jeanty with their top pick during this mock draft. It would be shocking to see Jeanty fall to this point. Many project him to go within the top 15 picks in the upcoming event. Having him slip to 21 would make this selection high value. Fans might be annoyed by taking another first-round running back, but Jeanty is worth it.

Even when he struggled against an elite opponent like Penn State in the College Football Playoffs, you could see his talent level above others. It wasn't his best performance, but he struggled against a poor offensive line. He managed to make some highlight-worthy acts during that battle. Jeanty has found different ways to make plays with the ball in his hands.

He has been consistent throughout his production at college. The Bronco has only gotten better with the more reps he received. You can claim he is the product of his competition level, but you cannot dismiss the numbers that Jeanty produced. This past season at Boise State, he produced mind-blowing numbers like 2,600 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns overall.

Taking Jeanty here would be a terrific value. It would be shocking if he slipped this far, and Dulac's report also makes this mock draft selection seem impossible. If the Steelers want to run the football effectively, they must make changes. They need a Saquon Barkley-level running back, and Jeanty offers that type of player.
