Most experts believe the 2025 NFL Draft is weak regarding these quarterbacks. None are like last year's group of rookies, and not many will go in the first round. Two or three might be the maximum taken in Round 1. That is low, and some have compared this class to 2022, when the Pittsburgh Steelers infamously selected Kenny Pickett.

Pittsburgh still prefers Justin Fields or Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback next season. One of those two options will likely re-sign before free agency officially begins on March 12. If neither returns to the Steelers, all cards are on the table to find a starter. Rumors are swirling that the organization isn't excited about many options in the draft, so they better bring back Fields or Wilson.

Even though word on the street believes the Steelers don't 'love' any top prospect in this draft class, that doesn't mean they won't target one in the middle rounds of the upcoming event. There are a couple of backup choices for Pittsburgh to pick from. Perhaps a former top quarterback in this draft class might've just slid into their grasp.

After a forgettable NFL Combine, Will Howard might be the perfect gamble for the Steelers.

Will Howard's dreadful NFL Combine could create a value pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL Draft

A poor performance at the NFL Combine could produce a steep hurdle to overcome. Howard just led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a National Championship, but his abilities have been questioned. His draft stock was soaring right after he reached glory, but things changed after his embarrassing display at the event.

After his combine debacle, expect Howard's draft stock to drop.

Howard was fine in most activities, but his passing drills were rough. He was late on throws and lacked consistency. Scouts and evaluators in attendance got a close view of the problems. Was Howard exposed as a quarterback who relied on talent around him? Maybe he had a bad day? You could chalk this up as both.

The Ohio State product has ample time to rebound from this tragic performance. His pro day will be the best opportunity for him to earn the good graces of NFL teams. The Steelers could take a quarterback with a mid-round pick in the upcoming draft. Howard would be a perfect fit for Pittsburgh.

He might have struggled, but that could've landed him in the perfect spot for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh could use a player like him to back up Fields or Wilson during this upcoming campaign. Howard has shown that he can lead a dynamic offense in college when he's surrounded by a fantastic supporting cast. He could be the point guard on offense to distribute the ball if called upon. He shouldn't be a starter on day one, but he can be a solid backup during his rookie season.
