As training camp begins, don't be shocked if these Pittsburgh Steelers become common names who make a leap. Perhaps they are a rookie or a player who is normally a role player on the depth chart, but this year could be where everything changes.

There are a handful of names who could breakout at Steelers training camp and improve their role on the roster.

Not only are these potential breakout training camp stars going to be counted on this season, but if they struggle, things could go south. Some interesting pieces on offense and defense should be expected to take a step forward this season. If they cannot live up to that anticipation this year, it could come back to haunt them and the team.

Pittsburgh Steelers training camp could see many breakout candidates on the roster

Nick Herbig

He just signed a massive extension with the Steelers, so hopes are high for Nick Herbig. Expect him to see an increased role, not only at training camp, but on defense this entire campaign ahead. They paid him big money to be an impact player. While Herbig has shown positive growth as a rusher to date, Pittsburgh should envision him as an elite edge this time around.

Eli Heidenreich

Although he was a seventh-round pick, don't be shocked if Eli Heidenreich makes a case to stick with the team.

Kaleb Johnson's name continues to be on the roster bubble as training camp starts, and Heidenreich should give him a run for his money. Expect the rookie running back to have a positive influence on the brutal competition at his position, and it could cause chaos.

Keeanu Benton

Expect some contract talks to happen between the Steelers and Keeanu Benton this preseason, but his price shouldn't be exorbitant right now. He has shown flashes of potential, but going into a contract year, Benton needs to show more. His potential demands might be too rich for Pittsburgh to consider. The defensive tackle needs to show he has finally reached his potential.

Germie Bernard

Factoring in the number of quality wide receivers on the roster going into training camp, the pressure is off for Germie Bernard.

With that said, the rookie wideout should see plenty of snaps go his way during his first time around with the Steelers. The preseason will determine how much of a playmaker he will be initially for the club. He has all the potential to make some noise.

Daylen Everette

Few rookies had better OTAs and minicamp outings than Daylen Everette. He received high praise all around and must carry that over into training camp. The Steelers like the player, but their secondary is full of talent. It will be up to the rookie defensive back to show he deserves playing time on defense. If Everette keeps his current trajectory going, he will shoot up the depth chart.
