With the revamped United Football League, many expected multiple success stories as the spring football organization emphasized local markets. The league aimed to promote familiar players from specific regions to better connect with targeted audiences.

Overall, the UFL has been more successful than in previous seasons; however, some players hoping to revive their careers have already fallen short.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Benny Snell Jr. was one of the most recognizable names on the Louisville Kings roster. There was considerable excitement surrounding the former Kentucky Wildcats standout as he joined the United Football League in an attempt to revive his career. Unfortunately, after early struggles to make an impact, Snell has already found himself out of a job.

According to Kent Taylor of WLKY, the local news station reported that the Kings released Snell just four weeks into the 2026 season. The decision is surprising, as the former Steelers running back entered the UFL campaign with high expectations. However, this latest setback could place his professional future in serious jeopardy. If things seem bleak now, the situation may only worsen.

Ex-Pittsburgh Steelers RB Benny Snell Jr.'s career might be over after getting cut in UFL

After failing to make a significant impact in Louisville, it remains unclear what lies ahead for Snell. While he runs with power, his long-standing inability to consistently break tackles or create plays on his own has continued to hinder him at the professional level. Given the lower level of competition in the UFL, he appeared poised to perform better, but that expectation has not been met.

Snell may face very limited opportunities as he looks to continue his professional football career. His best hope may be earning another chance with a United Football League team that can provide a stronger rushing system and a clearer path to success. While an NFL return appears unlikely at the moment, a fresh opportunity with another club could help keep his career alive.

A return to the Steelers was always improbable, and that possibility has diminished even further following Snell’s poor start and eventual release from the Kings.

If he is unable to perform at a high level against lower-tier competition, it is difficult to envision any NFL team signing him to their roster. Right now, there appears to be little urgency from other UFL teams to sign him. While it remains to be seen where Snell’s career goes from here, the signs increasingly point toward the possibility that his time in professional football may be coming to an end.
