It's been over four years since JuJu Smith-Schuster played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he is still a fan favorite. There have been a couple of times when his name has surfaced in speculation regarding the former star receiver's potential of rejoining the Steelers. That hasn't happened since he left in free agency back in 2022.

Some fans would still love to see the beloved figure return to Pittsburgh.

That possible reunion only continues to become more complex as JuJu struggles to stay relevant in the NFL. He signed with the New York Giants this past offseason, but he was entering a position group full of talent and big names. His chances of making their roster were slim, but things have only deteriorated since. The former Steelers playmaker has officially been cut by the Giants.

Any sort of reunion with Smith-Schuster continues to get less likely with his decline in play. Pittsburgh has plenty of talented options at the wide receiver spot, so bringing JuJu back wouldn't make sense unless he was willing to come back on the practice squad.

Things look bleak when it comes to his future in the NFL, so expect him to try to find a roster spot before considering alternative options.

When you review the Giants' depth chart on their team website, things only appeared worse for the Steelers' former second-round pick. He was listed as the fourth string on their listing, which is something Smith-Schuster is new to. It's hard to fathom how a budding star who was elected to the Pro Bowl during his time in Pittsburgh is now struggling to hang on to any sort of roster relevance.

Since he left the Steelers in free agency, JuJu Smith-Schuster hasn't been able to keep his production consistent.

He did win a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, but you could argue that he wasn't a massive factor in that outcome. The wide receiver has seen his numbers drop on a consistent basis since 2022, and he has only broken 1,000 receiving yards in a season once.

The Giants had too much talent at the position for JuJu to stick around on their roster. They should keep seven receivers on the team, but there are better players in front of him. Another issue that worked against Smith-Schuster was some injuries that set him back at training camp. Those issues have only pushed any level of job security he had further away.

At the end of the day, don't expect JuJu Smith-Schuster to return to the Steelers barring some insane outcome.

He hasn't produced strong numbers in many years, and for the most part, he is an experienced depth player at this point in his career. New York made him part of early roster cuts, which is concerning for him. It's hard to see how his career has gone from being a star to a lower-tier player.
