Grade the trade idea: Steelers propose surprise blockbuster move out of nowhere

Fans of the Steelers want a blockbuster move to upgrade at receiver and this mock trade does just that.

It seems like every day sparks a new rumor surrounding the Steelers. They seem fairly active in the trade market, but for one reason or another, they haven't been able to close deals. Omar Khan and company are searching for players who can elevate their team to new heights for both this season and potentially beyond. Pittsburgh could use some long-term help at a couple of positions.

They couldn't land Brandon Aiyuk earlier in the offseason, and they just failed to get Davante Adams. Since they came up short with both of those trade inquiries, the Steelers still have a gaping hole at receiver. Beyond George Pickens making some plays, the black and gold are missing a big-time target. If they want a shot at competing against the top teams in the AFC, they will need to find a resolution to this problem.

When you look at potential trade options for receivers who are rumored to be out there, the Steelers don't have many good choices.

That is until FanDuel Sportsbook dropped a blockbuster trade idea for Pittsburgh to consider. It might not be completely realistic, but if the LA Rams consider moving Cooper Kupp, the black and gold must call their phone until it powers off.

Grade for Steelers mock trade for LA Ram's Cooper Kupp: A+

Not only would this potential deal be a huge blockbuster, but it would be highway robbery by the Steelers. You get a top-ten receiver in the NFL when he is healthy in Kupp. His injury issues have been a problem in recent years, but he would be a terrific weapon to add next to Pickens. Pittsburgh only has to give up a third-round pick in the upcoming draft and a roster player with starting experience.

Kupp is coming close to a return from his injury, which has only allowed him to play in two games this season. We know the Rams have a high standard, but they have been losing regularly over the past two years. If they are willing to get into a rebuild then the likes of Kupp and Matthew Stafford could hit the trade block either before the deadline or at some point in the offseason.

We know Khan has been quick to jump into trade conversations in recent history when a "big name" trade target becomes available. It would be foolish to assume he wouldn't go after Kupp if he were to become available. Another thing that would be an interesting wrinkle into this is the recent trade history between the Steelers and the Rams.

If Kupp were to be traded, it is hard to believe that it would only be for a third-round pick and Bishop. Yes, Bishop is a young starting option at slot cornerback, but he has not been good in his rookie campaign yet. The third-round pick could also turn into something, but it is unlikely that draft choice could have Kupp's career. If the Steelers were to pull this off, then hats off to Khan and company.
