It's not hard to figure out why Heath Miller was always a fan favorite.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans have heard mixed reviews from former players about the type of teammate Ben Roethlisberger was during his 18-year tenure with the franchise. Now, years after his retirement, two-time Pro Bowl tight end and 11-year NFL veteran Heath Miller weighed in with his thoughts on the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

While the 2026 NFL Draft festivities were going on, I had the privilege to sit down with Miller, who partnered with Novartis as part of its national prostate cancer screening awareness campaign, “Relax It’s a Blood Test.” The campaign aims to break down common myths around prostate cancer screening and highlight that screening can begin with a simple PSA blood test.

During our interview on FanSided, I asked Heath about his relationship with Roethlisberger when they were teammates in Pittsburgh, and he had only glowing words for his old friend. Miller also couldn't overstate how blessed he was to play his entire NFL career with one quarterback.

"Well, it doesn't go unnoticed to me that I was so fortunate to play with one quarterback my whole career, and I know that had a great impact on my career. As you mentioned, Ben [Roethlisberger] was drafted the year before me. So to be able to play your whole career with a Hall of Fame quarterback, not a lot of people can say that.

I realize how lucky I was, and obviously, Ben was one of the best quarterbacks in the league throughout his career. He'll go down as an all-time great, not only in Pittsburgh, but in the NFL. He was awesome as a player, good teammate, and really fortunate to have him as my teammate throughout his career."

Heath Miller shares his thoughts on Ben Roethlisberger and the current Pittsburgh Steelers in latest interview

Miller's comments were a breath of fresh air after Big Ben's character had been criticized at times by former teammates (like Joey Porter) since his retirement. Instead of focusing on any of Roethlisberger's shortcomings, Miller had only kind words to say about his former teammate.

Because of his popularity, Roethlisberger remains a hot topic among Steelers fans five years after his retirement.

In addition to answering questions about Roethlisberger, Miller talked about his best friend on the Steelers during his early years, offered words of wisdom for tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington, and shared his thoughts on what Pittsburgh must do to end its nine-year playoff drought and get back on top again.
