After months of speculating who the Pittsburgh Steelers could deploy at quarterback, we may finally have our answer. Since the start of the NFL negotiation period, Aaron Rodgers has been linked to Pittsburgh, but as the dust settled on free agency fans were left in the dark.

On Friday, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Rodgers is at the Steelers' facility and a deal could be coming soon.

This is earth-shattering news. Leading up to this report, we had learned that the Minnesota Vikings dropped out of the running for Rodgers, Pat McAfee suggested the 41-year-old quarterback could retire if he wasn't able to sign with Minnesota. There were also reports that Rodgers may not sign until close to the 2025 NFL Draft, while others believed a decision could even linger into the summer.

Just when Steelers fans were coming to the realization that Mason Rudolph may be the starting quarterback for the 2025 season, it looks like Rodgers could be inking a deal soon.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' patience will pay off in free agent Aaron Rodgers joins the team

Steelers fans have been biting their fingernails, waiting to see how the quarterback situation would unfold. It appeared the plan was to bring back Justin Fields in 2025 and Pittsburgh had an offer on the table for the young quarterback. However, after getting benched ahead of Week 7, Fields ultimately chose to sign with the New York Jets and join first-time head coach Aaron Glenn.

Like him or not, Rodgers is the best-remaining quarterback on the market. The alternatives to missing out on the future Hall of Famer could include turning back to an unspectacular Russell Wilson (who wasn't good enough to get the job done in 2024), signing a high-variance quarterback like Jameis Winston, going with a dull, aging QB like Joe Flacco, or simply taking your lumps with Mason Rudolph.

If Rodgers indeed signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers after this facility visit, it doesn't mean the front office won't be interested in selecting a QB in the 2025 NFL Draft. Rodgers will turn 42 years old late in the 2025 season, and he's nothing more than a stop-gap option.

As annoying as this process has been so far, Aaron Rodgers as the Steelers' facility is a welcome sight. Let's hope this is accompanied by a signing. The four-time MVP quarterback is well past his prime and he has his personality quirks, but there's no doubt he gives Pittsburgh the best shot of competing in the postseason in 2025.
