Going into the next installment of Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, there will be plenty of storylines to keep fans buzzing. Whether we're talking Aaron Rodgers or the arrival of some impactful rookies, there is a lot going on.

But, beyond all of the bigger names and stories will be some intense roster battles toward the end of the depth chart. One of those battles will include veteran Lance McCutcheon attempting to earn the final wide receiver spot, but it's already looking unlikely.

The Steelers have invested into a couple of other veteran wide receivers, this offseason, which is one of the big reasons McCutcheon will likely be pushed off the roster.

Lance McCutcheon may not make it through Steelers training camp and onto the final roster

Pittsburgh, of course, made the trade to acquire DK Metcalf who immediately becomes the team's no. 1 wide receiver. But, they also signed Robert Woods who should slot right in and be a valuable veteran for Rodgers.

Those two join Calvin Austin, Scotty Miller, Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek who will all probably round out the top six wideouts.

Austin and Wilson were recently-drafted with higher-end capital while Miller and Skowronek have less invested in them. It very well could come down to Miller, Skowronek and McCutcheon battling it out for the final two spots, assuming the Steelers keep six at the position.

Last season, Miller was active for 13 games while Skowronek was in uniform for 10. Meanwhile, McCutcheon hasn't appeared in a regular season game since 2022.

To say his career might already be nearing its end isn't exactly hyperbole. McCutcheon has fought to keep his NFL career alive after going undrafted three years ago, going from the Rams, to the Texans, to the Jets and now he's in Pittsburgh.

The former Montana State standout is certainly a practice squad candidate, as he's spent time with multiple in the past couple of seasons. But, when it comes to a roster spot, he's already got one foot out the door.
