Dallas sends a first-rounder this year and a young cornerback to the Steelers in return for Joey Porter Jr. Again, this probably wouldn't get a trade of this magnitude agreed to on Pittsburgh's end, as they would probably demand something more. Perhaps a second or third rounder being included by the Cowboys would get this trade accomplished.
It's a solid trade package offered by the Cowboys on behalf of Howe, and one that could make the Steelers start to consider a move for Porter. It's important to remember that the Steelers do not need to deal the cornerback, so it would require significant value for the club to consider it. This mock trade might not be the offer that Omar Khan would need to pull the trigger, but it would allow him to start to explore his options.
When it comes down to it, the Steelers would be hoping to use that extra first-rounder from Dallas to slide up in the upcoming draft to take a quarterback. That could be the silver lining of this deal. The Cowboys have struggled to stay relevant in recent years, and they're coming off a down season.
Perhaps that first rounder becomes a top pick, which could set the team up for a big-time quarterback prospect.
Howe also threw in Shavon Revel Jr. as the roster player going back in Pittsburgh's direction. He is an interesting young cornerback who is coming off a significant knee injury. He was Dallas' third-round pick last year and is making noise this summer. In this mock trade, the Steelers would be betting on Revel turning into a strong starter and potentially getting into position to draft a quarterback.
