Mock trade imagines Steelers doing what Bills wouldn’t for Keon Coleman

Tensions between the Buffalo Bills and former head coach Sean McDermott have escalated in recent weeks. The team discussed the matter at an end-of-season press conference led by general manager Brandon Beane and owner Terry Pegula. In that travesty of an event, they found ways to try to scapegoat their failed playoff runs by shoving many different people under the bus.

McDermott came under scrutiny from the owner at the press conference, while Beane was shielded with praise. The organization did not hold back in criticizing the “poor” calls made during Buffalo’s playoff loss to the Broncos, despite some tough competition. Meanwhile, wide receiver Keon Coleman absorbed significant criticism, with comments that nearly framed him as a draft bust.

Pegula claimed that McDermott and his staff pushed to draft Coleman, thus exonerating Beane in that decision.

"That was Brandon being a team player. ... He's taken heat over it. I'm here to tell you the true story."

No matter who decided to take Coleman 33rd overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, things haven't worked out. The Pittsburgh Steelers will be on the hunt to help their receiver group heading into next season. They could have a completely overhauled group from their roster that went into the playoff loss against the Houston Texans.

Coleman will likely be traded or cut this offseason with a chance to rebound elsewhere.

Pittsburgh Steelers mock trade for Keon Coleman could be flip of two draft busts

Steelers swap one potential draft bust for another in mock draft to shake things up

In this mock trade, Pittsburgh sends Roman Wilson to the Bills for Coleman in return. Both are starting to walk the fine line of draft bust after two seasons in the NFL. Wilson has struggled with injuries throughout his career, but ended the 2025 season as a frequent healthy scratch. With both players having similar struggles in the production department, this could be a solution for both teams.

Making a trade like this isn't common, but it could become a disaster for a club.

If Coleman and Wilson switch franchises and catch fire with their new team, it could make someone look like a genius or a fool. In this mock trade scenario, the Steelers would face more risk than the Buffalo. Wilson has shown he can get open, and Josh Allen would certainly give him opportunities. Coleman, on the other hand, would join a team with a question mark at the quarterback position.

Wilson completed his second year in the league, although it was his first active season. He missed his entire rookie campaign due to injury, and questions about his durability have persisted throughout his stint. He only produced 12 catches off 21 targets this season for a disappointing total of 166 yards and two touchdowns. Things aren't working out with the Steelers.

This mock trade could make sense for Pittsburgh as they swap out for a receiver with a higher draft pedigree in Coleman.

The Steelers would be getting the younger receiver, as Coleman is 22, and Wilson is 24. The Bills' target has also been more productive during his two years in the NFL. This past season didn't live up to the hype, but Coleman produced 404 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games.
