Pittsburgh Steelers fans know what it's like to suffer through a dismal stretch of performances from an aging Russell Wilson. Unfortunately for New York Giants fans, they'll have to learn this the hard way. On Monday, one day after suffering a blowout loss to the Washington Commanders, Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced that the team is sticking with Wilson at quarterback.
If you thought Wilson went quiet for the Steelers late in the 2024 season, it's nothing compared to what Giants fans just witnessed in Week 1.
In his first game with New York, Wilson turned in a cringeworthy performance, completing just 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards (4.5 yards per attempt). Wilson was also sacked twice, and his 25.6 QBR is about as bad as it gets.
On nine possessions for Wilson, the Giants were forced to punt six times while turning the ball over on downs late in the game. The offense's only success included a pair of field goals in the 21-6 defeat.
The Pittsburgh Steelers fans know what New York Giants fans are already going through
The idea of Russell Wilson is much better than the player at this stage of his career. Wilson earned nine Pro Bowls in his first 10 NFL seasons, but the 36-year-old is far removed from the player he was back in 2020 and prior with the Seattle Seahawks.
Wilson is on his third team in as many years after brief stops with the Broncos and Steelers. Now, Giants fans are learning what we already knew about the aging quarterback: he simply doesn't have it in him anymore.

The Giants' decision to stick with Wilson as the signal-caller when they have first-round rookie Jaxson Dart waiting in the wings might be a business decision. New York has upcoming games against the Cowboys, Chiefs, and Chargers over the next three weeks. They will also be forced to play the Eagles twice before Week 8 concludes.
Russell Wilson clearly isn't the solution for the Giants, and somehow, the offense seems to have gotten worse since moving on from Daniel Jones. New York is going nowhere fast with Wilson at the helm, and Steelers fans know exactly what Giants fans are already going through.
